So, since slamming my shin into a solid metal tent-peg at Maelstrom (not a little camping thing, one of those big fuckers that keep the army tents from falling down) the area immediately south of the injury has become somewhat numb.

How worried should I be?

Agreed.
I cracked my shin on a corner peg that was holding Tallard up when it was in shadow on Friday night, I now have a very large closed over cut and a wide area effect bruise.

Hmm, it may have been the same peg ... just to the left of the door, immediately in the path one would naturally walk to return to one's tent?
