Bastard Student Loans have started taking money off me!

And after I sent them a deferment application, too. Bastards. This is their fault for not sending me an application form until April, and then the company secretary's fault for repeatedly forgetting to repring January's payslip.

Grrrrrr.

Exactly how much do you have to be on before you have to pay Student Loan's back these days!? I had to pay them back the moment I hit 14k (approx - I don't remember the actual ammount).

I don't know how they work it out, but I'm allowed to earn something like 1700 pcm before tax. I'm earning 1666 right now...

Even tho' I send them the defferment forms. Cheating bastards. No fucking suprise the first CEO was embezzeling funds to fuel his drug habit - they're a bunch of incompetent ass-monkeys (and not in a good way)

TBH I can afford a bit of hardship this month since I'm getting some overtime ... but I can't afford it every month. Maybe I need a smaller car.

Although, they can't get money off me - I've changed bank account and not told them my new one - so when 'late defferment backdating' comes through, i've not actually had to hand over money.

That is annoying. So when it says "It is important that you take action quickly each year as deferment can only be back-dated for 3 months which could mean that any arrears balance is still due to be repaid" it doesn't mean "We can give you up to 3 months back," it just means "We will stop pestering you for up to three months of repayments if you haven't had the foresight to delete the direct debit".

Yeah, A few years ago i wanted to increase the amount I paid so i could get it over with, and despite loads of promises, phone calls and letters, they are still charging me the £41.05 a month i was paying when i first got a job all those years ago.

On my salary i should be paying quite a lot more than that anyway as i am on roughly double what i was on when that was calculated.

Fortunately i only owe a few hundred quid on it now, and the last payment is due next february by my calculations.
I suspect they dont actually give a toss as I *am* paying it back.

Still annoying though. My parents always taught me to pay off my debts as quickly as possible.

They don't pay it back, they don't apologise, they don't respond to letters no matter how many you send, and they don't return fucking phone calls even when they say they will.

When i transferred degrees, some officious little twat from the medical school decided to write to them to tell them I'd left the degree course, but not that I'd transferred onto another one (I should have contacted them myself, but i hadn't got round to it as the only thing I really needed to tell them was change of graduation date, which wasn't exactly a pressing concern).

Nobody from the medical school or student loans mentioned anything to me. Months later, I got a letter from them demanding 6 months worth of payments. I explained the situation. I proved that I hdn't been earning enough during the short break between courses to be eligibnle for repayments. They claimed their system couldn't handle back-dating loan deferrments by more than 3 months, and insisted i send them 3 months worth of repayments. I stood my ground (hell, I didn't have the cash to pay them anyway). They refused to give me a loan for the next academic year until I paid them. I couldn't afford to live. Fortunately, my parents are kind and lovely people and could afford to help me repay the bastards.

During this process - which lasted for several weeks - I was phoning them at least once a day and writing a letter once every days. They never replied to a letter. Every time I phoned them they took my number and said someone would call me back the same day. They never did. The student loans company are complete wankers.

Quite harsh to have that taken out of the blue. Cancel the direct debit and only give them your details when you're ready to pay them.

Hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hjate Student Loans Company and the Government that spawned them. Money to do your A-levels so you've got enough education to be useful but no money to do degrees so you aren't too educated. Hate.
