Seem to be developing quite the skill in the "mascot design" department. Following my realisation of the Firestorm imp, I spent much of this weekend designing a character for somebody's biochemistry presentation. It seems to have come out quite well. Seriously, I went back to look at them again an hour later and was thoroughly stunned by the quality. I had no idea they looked so good.

Of them all, Apoptosis was probably the hardest - we had to express how this wonder drug stops Neutrophil cells from dying. I chose to illustrate this through the medium of a giant floating energy screen. He so crazy, man.

Enjoy. I'll probably put these up on my website in the folio at some point, since they're that good.

I've a friend in 'illustrated books' firm DKNY if you're after contacts.

To be honest, I don't know. people make a lving doing it, so there's probably enough to make it worth it. I'll prod my friend and see what happens.

There are very definitely people making a living, or at least good money on the sly, with independent illustration. Scott Thigpen, formerly of demise comics on the web, eventually got sick of doing free comics and turned his site into a portfolio and point of contact, and it seems to be doing pretty well - or at least it looks sexy.

The bottom line to me is that you have the talent, so it wouldn't hurt to get your name and your 'folio out there.
