One man's opinion
Feb. 17th, 2004 12:08 amI suspect the rainbow thing will ultimately spawn more spoofs than actual carriers. Actually, that's not true - I just wish it was. Some time ago, while walking through Manchester's Gay Village (it only goes out with other villages), I became a little disapproving of the way the community there (and, indeed, accross the world) has commandeered the rainbow. As though non-gay people aren't allowed to be flamboyant or wear bright colours, or something. Not that anyone needs my approval for anything, it just struck me as an odd thing to do. "I like to put my penis inside other men, and also pretty colours." I think it mostly perpetuates stereotypes.
I'm mostly babbling right now because NTL has disengaged their mail servers for maintenance, so I have nothing to do. I suppose I may as well go to bed, feh.
Hopefully tomorrow night is D&D at
ghostbritain's place, unless he is sick with gout again. Do not have gout Nook! We enjoy you.

Date: 2004-02-17 09:47 am (UTC)Were I less knackered, I'd put something quite wordy here. However, I'm knackered, so: the short version.
1) A gay village doesn't represent "gay", any more than the inside of the local Ritzy's represents "straight".
2) It's all very well complaining about rainbow bars all over LJs - I dislike them as well - but until I run an equal risk of getting my teeth smashed in for snogging someone in public as opposed to the massively more likely chance I have now, I'd rather see them than any other propaganda, ta.
3) I dislike pretty colours. Draw your own conclusions from that.
4) After seeing your resplendence in the Maelstrom mailshot I am now obsessed with you and am enjoying quite lurid fantasies whenever my work allows. Can I be your stalker now?
5) One of the above is untrue.
Yes, that is less wordy than the alternative :-P
