One man's opinion
Feb. 17th, 2004 12:08 amI suspect the rainbow thing will ultimately spawn more spoofs than actual carriers. Actually, that's not true - I just wish it was. Some time ago, while walking through Manchester's Gay Village (it only goes out with other villages), I became a little disapproving of the way the community there (and, indeed, accross the world) has commandeered the rainbow. As though non-gay people aren't allowed to be flamboyant or wear bright colours, or something. Not that anyone needs my approval for anything, it just struck me as an odd thing to do. "I like to put my penis inside other men, and also pretty colours." I think it mostly perpetuates stereotypes.
I'm mostly babbling right now because NTL has disengaged their mail servers for maintenance, so I have nothing to do. I suppose I may as well go to bed, feh.
Hopefully tomorrow night is D&D at
ghostbritain's place, unless he is sick with gout again. Do not have gout Nook! We enjoy you.

Date: 2004-02-16 11:30 pm (UTC)Now me... I'm colour blind... Have a real problem with the blue green end of the spectrum... It hurts me deeply each time I see it on a livejournal...

Date: 2004-02-17 03:14 am (UTC)Personally, I'm for anybody getting married provided both parties are consenting and know what is going on. I cannot be bothered with people who have marriage ceremonies for their pets. That's just ridiculous.
Actually...
Date: 2004-02-17 03:36 am (UTC)Come on, what is the exact difference between Indigo and Violet?
Re: Actually...
Date: 2004-02-17 03:41 am (UTC)About 30 nanometers
Re: Actually...
Date: 2004-02-17 03:57 am (UTC)And if that's the distance between the two colours, what are the colours that appear in the spectrum between them? Are they indigo or violet? Clearly they must be one or the other, since only those seven colours appear in the rainbow...
Re:
Date: 2004-02-17 05:25 am (UTC)Because I really dont care either way if gays or lesbians want to get together, good for them, I wont hold anything against them, love is a rare, yet good thing when it can be found, and if you find it with someone of the same sex, I wont try and stop you.
So why the sudden campaign with this damned rainbow?
I fucking hate it, it drives me up the wall, its forcing people to pick a side, and I never do, Im the sweden of world war 2, neutral. (possible bad example I know, but you may get the gist.)
Its preaching to the converted as well as the "Heathens" if you will. it just irritates me.

Date: 2004-02-17 09:47 am (UTC)Were I less knackered, I'd put something quite wordy here. However, I'm knackered, so: the short version.
1) A gay village doesn't represent "gay", any more than the inside of the local Ritzy's represents "straight".
2) It's all very well complaining about rainbow bars all over LJs - I dislike them as well - but until I run an equal risk of getting my teeth smashed in for snogging someone in public as opposed to the massively more likely chance I have now, I'd rather see them than any other propaganda, ta.
3) I dislike pretty colours. Draw your own conclusions from that.
4) After seeing your resplendence in the Maelstrom mailshot I am now obsessed with you and am enjoying quite lurid fantasies whenever my work allows. Can I be your stalker now?
5) One of the above is untrue.
Yes, that is less wordy than the alternative :-P
