Just watched "My Super Ex Girlfriend". Starring Uma "Uma" Thurman and Luke "Not Owen" Wilson.

It's ... not a great movie. Actually I think calling it a good movie would be charitable. But it is ... a movie. Definitely a movie.

Does have good shark effects, though.

But... do they ever, at any point, jump those shark effects? :)

It was a film I avoided like the plague when it was on... mainly because even the trailers managed to tell me that they had taken a not so bad concept and turned it into a really bad film.

It's not really bad. Some of the characterisation is nice ... and Thurman almost manages to sell the superhero as a legitimate flawed character, rather than the ALL CHICKS ARE CRAZY HUH WOW premise. (Not quite, though.)

It remains at its core an American romantic comedy, which means there are no funny lines in it, just sort of uncomfortable situations. And some sex jokes. The plot is by-the-numbers and at times does not even make consistent internal sense. Everybody pairs up at the end. The only non-caucasian person is a zany ethnic stereotype.

But, you know ... superheroes...

Kind of a bummer that the guy responsible for Ghostbusters and Stripes comes back every so often just to do something mediocre (although I haven't seen this movie yet).

It was dreadful. The shark effect, however, was hilarious and kept me chuckling for days. I've often wished I could do that to an ex.
