Some poking by
stsquad has revealed a possible cause for my Email woes - there's a spurious host server something wossname listed on the thingummy doo-dah! At some point I must remember to tell
johnleach that smtp2.bennee.com should be lower priority than bennee.com itself, seeing as how it doesn't exist at the moment.

dns updated
Date: 2005-02-06 11:05 am (UTC)I've removed smtp2.bennee.com and added my own mail server as a secondary for you (bennee.com is first priority though).
This shouldn't have caused problems though. As I understand it, if sending server failed trying smtp2.bennee.com it would then just go on to bennee.com and try that. That's the point of multiple mx records, when one is broken the others are tried).
Re: dns updated
Date: 2005-02-06 11:28 am (UTC)The weird thing is, despite smtp2 not existing, it wasn't actually failing to find it, it was just being rejected, saying "553 sorry, you don't authenticate or the domain isn't in the list of allowed rcpthosts".
Apparently Alex had forgotten to delete smtp2 from his dyndns setup, which can't have helped things.
Bizarrely the only time it failed for me was when I tried sending to myself from Outlook Express instead of webmail. This may be coincidence.
