O! I remembered that song that I thought sounded like U2. It was Supergrass (I remembered that the first time, and only said it was the Super Furry Animals on Tuesday because [livejournal.com profile] arwel was wearing a SFA T-shirt), and the song is Kiss of Life. Very different from their earlier stuff.

In other news: I'm not fantastically impressed by Keane, I think their stuff is a bit samey and possibly generic. It's nice enough, and I generally have a lot of time for piano, but I don't think I'd want to listen to a whole album. I certainly wouldn't say they're the greatest thing since sliced bread (maybe since Coldplay).

I fully expect to receive scorn from certain quarters for this, but I don't care because I'm INDIE.

The song I'd heard and thought was Keane - mostly because it was new and exciting, and everybody was saying Keane was new and exciting - was in fact Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet. Which I like. Though, after looking around their site, I suspect I may like the single rather than the band in general. Which is usual.

Keane are alright, kind of like a Travis\Coldplay\Puresence crossover with pianos and twinkly bits. Yes it it is samey, but quite listenable.

I did wonder about you comparing an SFA song to U2, I couldn't think of any of their songs that could be described like that off the top of my head, certainly not from their latest album. I never liked U2, and I think their best song (Beautiful Day?) sounds rather too similar to Gay Dad's first single. Well it does in my head at least.

I've been listening to the new Ash and Streets albums over the
last couple of days and both are excellent. The Streets just had me smiling all the way through. Proper review of both if I ever update my LJ.

"Fit but you know it" isn't really representative of the entire album. It's very much worth listening to the album all the way through. Musically it's better than the first and the way he threads a story through all the tracks is really well done.

I've got The Streets album as well. It's one of those things that I thought I'd hate but after hearing a few tracks, quickly changed my opinion on the whole thing and now do hearty recommmendations.

I know what you mean about Keane, but they're promising more than anything else. If they manage to hold it together without disappearing up their own backsides, they have the potential to get better. Other than that, I'm into Snow Patrol at the moment, who are quite groovy.

Pay-day today - any albums to recommend for my hard earned cash?

The new Ash album - Meltdown
Auf der Maur - Auf der Maur. Good if you liked alternative at any point in the mid 90's.
Mars Volta - Deloused in the comatorium. Epic. Good.

There's two standouts from the Streets abum - Dry your Eyes, which I think is the one you mean, and Blinded by the Lights. At it's best, the Streets is reminiscent of Parklife-era Blur, or especially with regard to the two tracks mentioned there, Pulp.

I too am enamoured of the Jet track, but not the album.

Yeah, those are my two favourites off the album, Blinded by the Lights especially.
