I'm beginning to see what some people mean when they say invite-only LRP is a bad thing. It's quite depressing when one doesn't get invited.

Some friends of mine are going to delvy's Fading Suns game. They said it would be fantastic, and I should go too. Perusing his website I found the characters were pregenerated and prebriefed - fair enough, thought I, it's like an Interactive Literature game. I've played a couple of those, and I'm also used to playing prewritten parts with varying degrees of freedom while monstering. It's always great fun. So I picked out a couple of characters I was interested in and lobbed an email his way. A week passed with no word, and arwel mentioned he'd had to send a phone number and have a chat before being let in, so as delvy could get a handle on which character he'd be best suited for. I decided it was worth a try, though by now most of the characters had gone. Several more days have gone by and I've still heard nothing.

I'd email him again, but I don't really want to pester. It would just be nice to know that I'd been rejected already, or that he'd got my message and was considering me, or he didn't recognise my email address, or, I don't know, he doesn't like my face or something. Whatever. It's probably more annoying not to hear anything than it would be to be spurned.

I suspect one or two of those categories may have gone up following this post. It's a little bit Psychodrama, and possibly a tad Attention Whoring, since I posted it at least partially to get delvy's attention...

You have got my attention. Be warned this may not be a good thing. I have been a bit busy the last few days with Maelstrom plotidj and so when my LJ wouldn't update two days okay I left it to one side mentally until the weekend.

You have a part. It is one of the ones on your shortlist. Be happy. Or else.

Good luck with the plottage, I don't know if a system has ever been so eagerly anticipated by so many people ... and had such a short time to be completely created from scratch. I am confident it is in capable hands, however.

Some background.

It was originally written three years ago, or rather the whoswho was, while I was in hospital on morphine. The first player parts were assigned about 30 months ago, to Russ, JohnS and Kat. Since the it's slowly built momentum. Now it's on it's way.

Ah, I have just realised you meant maelstrom. *Snigger* Well thats going to be fun. I think it's getting there to be honest, and has huge potential.

Oh and on the "invite-only" bit... itSH is not invite only. Hell I've not even sent out invites. I sent out the whoswho to those people I had in my addressbook, touted it around at a few events and parties and posted it on my LJ. I even posted it on Pagga. Becuase there are a limited number of places and it is as much freeform as larp there is a requirement to do some casting, but lots of people I would never have thought to have "invited" are on the player list. Just because of word of mouth.

As is I don't have a problem with invite only. Thats the decision of the organisers and ultimately it's their game.
