A very wise decision
Apr. 12th, 2004 07:02 pmBack from Maelstrom. So cool. Demand Downtime system active ASAP. Shower soon, as am still painted as tree on face and extremities up to mid-shin and mid-forearm, but LJ first.
Spent much of event talk people, say forest good. Forest good for all. Of course, most of the interest in the forest on the part of the Dryads is entirely selfish - I will not say exactly why, but there was a point when we went to Games Operation Desk and asked how strong the forest was currently, and the answer was "Twelve." Which we thought was good. But it could be better.
It's not entirely that. It also very much seems as though that is what Dryads are for, in a real and literal sense - guardian spirits of the forest awoken because of the recent increase in forestry - and when you are entirely without direction and suddenly find you have a purpose it is very hard to think of a reason not to do so. And why should we? We are of the forest. We are for the forest. Is all. Is good.
Had fun slowly developing language skills from "difficulty with simple words" ("Amamama! Wanubomu!") to "Simple words and phrases" ("Anaguma." "I Wanderingu Borosomu.") up to "Functioning thesaurus" ("Face? Reputation? Slackjawed lollygagging?"). I don't imagine I'll lose the accent, because it's funny, and given names will definitely retain their corrupted forms ("Raydi Faffa" instead of "Lady Sapphire", for example), but I'll definitely be a lot more fluent by the next event. This was in fact my plan all along, pleased to see it dovetails with the Dryad race sheet so nicely. May retain illusion of "forest idiot" until time comes to disillusion people. Hee hee hee.
Have been asked to email Mr
pax_draconis on super secret business. Feel special. Will do so after shower, and will share if possible, or just hint at the shape of the things I am not allowed to say if not.
Twelve.
ADDITIONAL: Realise I have said little of event outside of own concerns. Will expand. Kit quality: High. Plot quality: Good, almost exclusively inserted through player ingress (example: Colonists need wood for building, land to build on. Dryads need forest for power and hug. Instant plot!). RP quality: Excellent.
Clan Anaguma worked really well. Was a little worried that people may be insulted by standoffishness and lawful behaviour, but instead everybody else was really worried about insulting us and having entire Kamakura nation come down on like bricks (ton, proverbial). Most people seemed to think we were bricky hard. This turned out to be true, thanks to mana and healing. See, on Saturday the dirty Malathians tried to kick off against us; both sides were pretty fucked, but arrival of other Kamakuran clans prevented loss of life. Then we got healed up and would have been ready to go again. Malathians, on the other hand, had little to no healing, and were thus scared to shout too loudly for remainder of weekend on account of falling in two pieces.
We may not be the hardest fighters, but we are the best organised, and we have the biggest hats, also fans.
Interestingly, also as I suspected, some people are allegedly of the belief that Clan Anaguma are pesky NPCs, a flange mechanism to regulate crime and so forth IC. This amuses.
