Microsoft Internet Chrome Google Browser Soft 9

I just had cause to visit the Microsoft Update site (for my work machine, honest) and once again clicked the "Do not install Internet Explorer 8" button. When I did so, it flashed up the description of the update that I was in my ignorance disabling, and my eye was caught by the first sentence:

"Internet Explorer 8 is the latest version of the familiar Web browser that you are most comfortable using."

...

Wow. When did Microsoft start offering updates to Google Chrome?


What I mean to say is: What the hell kind of supreme arrogance is that? Thank you for telling me which browser I am most comfortable with, Microsoft! I hadn't realised previously.

I like Chrome(ium) and I run an instance for all my Google Apps instances I have open every day. However it still sucks for general browsing without Ad Block Plus. And I assume you are a heavy user of Firebug?

Meh, I have never used any kind of external AdBlock, I resent third parties sitting between me and my content censoring what I see (even if the intent is altruistic). I rely entirely on my own internal filters, and as a result I can quite happily read any webpage on any platform without seeing a single advert. My eyes just slide right over them.

I am! And I am also a heavy user of Chrome's built-in DOM browsing functionality. I still occasionally have to jump back out to Firebug as it's slightly more reliable (Chrome will occasionally misinterpret where my cursor is or deal badly with dynamic elements).

Additional: Since my previous comment, I have discovered that (unrelated to the Windows Update thing) there is indeed an update to Chrome, and the packaged DOM inspector is now vastly improved. Aside from apparently more reliably finding your element, it also now displays small but significant things like "margins" and "padding"...
