A wise dolphin once said that the longer one goes without sleep, the more vivid and accurate one's dreams become. I don't know about accurate, but I got to bed last night and I had a corker of a vivid one.

Doctor Who and the Phantom Stranger on a mission to save light entertainment.

It began with the Phantom Stranger[1] standing (walking?) in a city street; then God appeared. He looked sort of like Tom from off of Waiting For God with an enormous Gandalf beard[2], wearing gold-trimmed pope robes[3]. As the camera circled him it became clear he was being escorted by a hulking brute - hunched over like a gorilla but still maybe nine feet tall or more[4] - also wearing gold-trimmed pope robes.

The Stranger was hesitant to believe this was God, as he rarely explicitly appears in DC Comics[5], but God raised one hand, and the henchman spread his arms wide, and GLORY shone around, and the word "IEHOVA"[6] was spelled out in a halo above him. And smoke gathered, and from behind the henchman rose a ... er ... a slowly spinning, gently landing ... police box...[7]

There's a hazy portion which I assume contained extensively witty and intelligent dialogue between God, Stranger and Doctor; I remember finding that the Doctor had acquired a lady companion in Victorian era costume, and some plot point about important people from history being erased by a malevolent force, and when the Phantom Stranger mentioned one name the Doctor said "What, Matthew Kelly?"[8] and it was determined that the people being targeted were important mostly to the world of light entertainment. The scene then cut to the Stranger, the Doctor, the Assistant and myself (or possibly an empty seat - ambiguous directorial dream-presence, as usual) in a golf buggy pulling up outside a terraced house and rushing in to find an absence of Matthew Kelly. The team raced off to find their enemy's next target and were overtaken by some vehicle - possibly a hearse? - and a chase scene followed.

There was some distraction during the chase, dear reader. It seems the director briefly broke off to look something up on the internet, and when the attention returned to our epic quest the Phantom Stranger was Basil Brush.[9]

And then for some reason the golf cart was airborne, perhaps by way of a ramp of some description, and Basil was laughing, and they were falling, and the Doctor shouted at the Phantom Stranger to stop being Basil Brush and save them already, and then I woke up.

Armchair psychoanalysis welcome.

[1] I was reading Blue Beetle yesterday, in which the Phantom Stranger appeared.
[2] We watched the first half of the Fellowship of the Ring (super special extended edition) on Monday.
[3] Maybe because of a snippet of Family Guy we watched, which featured the pope?
[4] Possibly related to the big hulking lion that (briefly) appears in Madagascar 2, or perhaps [livejournal.com profile] doctor_kaos's mention of the Hulk over the weekend
[5] True.
[6] Hebrew has no J, according to Indiana Iones and the Last Crusade, which I have been recently playing in Lego on the XBox.
[7] I still haven't seen the Easter Special so he's lodged in my mind at the moment. Also [livejournal.com profile] si_lloyd's "Doctor worship" comment may have influenced the initial GLORIA IN TARDIS DEO appearance.
[8] The name the Stranger used wasn't actually his real name, but it's possible I was in some way aware that he uses a stage name. However I suspect the general string of light entertainment running through the dream was more due to my Wikipedia meanderings re Terry-Thomas. Prompted, incidentally, by recent "cad/bounder" conversations and behaviours.
[9] Possibly again due to Terry-Thomas.
