Who? What?
BBCi is being obtuse and mys-teer-i-ous, making almost nonexistent yet somehow enticing references to current developments in Who. It's intriguing because the BBCi Who team are clearly big Who fans themselves, and wouldn't use words like "Terribly Exciting" lightly. My fanboy brain leaps to the obvious conclusion that the new TV series may have secured REG as 9doc after all... probably entirely wrong, but wouldn't it be nice?
I find the BBCi situation interesting. I had always assumed that, being part of the BBC megacorporation, they would be keyed in on all the latest info and inside tracks. One would think they'd get all the scoops and exclusives. It would seem, however, that they are a discrete entity, at least inasmuchas the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing until it makes an official press release, and often have to report second-hand information ("SFX reports..."). They're basically a fansite with BBC spending power behind them, and only occasionally get whispers from upstairs when it pertains directly to what they're doing (such as the webcasts). It makes sense for their Buffy/Angel or Farscape minisites to operate like that, but it seems odd for an in-house production.
People keep approaching me to do artwork, which is nice. I will soon have to maintain a list in order that nobody gets forgotten.
Additional: I arer Malathian!
Additional additional: Support has arrived for my Maelstrom concept, so I'm trying to pick a name via Jeffrey's Japanese/English Dictionary - long story short, I need a tree-related name in a Kamakura stylee. I am currently fighting the urge to be called Miki, love. It does work on several layers, but it would be perhaps too silly... Sakaki, Kaju and Hananoki also sound cool.

Bastard, you've infected me.
Re:
Ah, looking specifically for names ... "Morio" is a forest boy, and "Sen" is a wood fairy. I have also now spotted Kyoboku which means "tall tree", though I don't think that's a name as such.
Maybe I should stop trying to guess what the Mokosh would name me, and ask them to name me. :)

Ahh, what the hell. Okay, Endurance, Constitution, Fortitude and Staunch Wounds.

I prodded them viciously with my journalism credentials over the 'Giles the TV series' thing and they kept trying to fob me off with previous bits of news until they eventually went "How the hell would we know? Tell us if you find anything out. Please."
Turned out it was all Anthony Head's fault it didn't happen, but I digress.
Hmm, can a dryad take wood working? Would it count as pruning you think? Or Body Art
Re:
What you both said.
There is a network of CultTV fans within BBCi too. They all feed off each other. People in/around my team of developers had written reviews for Who books, Buffy episodes and all kinds of other stuff.
I'm not convinced about the 'spending power' statement. CultTV is pretty much populated with pure enthusiasm. If anything, being part of the BBC stops them having as much fun as they'd like. Largely due to having to honour historical agreements with profit making sections of the BBC and worrying about little niggles like 'intellectual property' and 'copyright'.
You'll often find that they trawl the fansites for more up-to-date info than they get themselves.

Re:
They still seem (to me) to have slightly more spending power than your average parent's-basement-based fansite, as evidenced by the recent animated Webcasts and so forth... though maybe that's more down to BBC marketing given them an advance showing than it is BBCi pushing the project through. Still, Cosgrove Hall and Richard E Grant are to be considered benefits of woking for The Man, whatever its specific origins. :)

On the other hand, I am so pretty, and I don't understand.
