Jonas was the one they picked up to replace the archaeologist fellow when he left the series. There are actually parallels with Red Dwarf, since after one season Daniel returned through some contrived and unexplained method. The difference being that unlike Koshanski, Stargate has since shed its extraneous team member, returning to the glorious status quo.

I've only seen 5 episodes of season 6 so far but I like Jonas. He's chirpy but laid back. In my opinion none of the stargate characters are great in their own right but often work well in combinations; usually Jack and any other SG1 member is a good combination but refreshingly Carter and Jonas play well off one another. I'm not especially missing Daniel so far. I mean I liked the character but it's not as though my universe has stopped without him.
And yes, I know I'm behind the times but they keep starting the new seasons before the box set of the previous season thus dooming me to play continual catch-up.
