Okay, first I had a pretty awesome dream about Scooby-Doo.

This may have been somewhat inspired by watching The Day The Earth Stood Stupid, and Fry's faux-death in that, but in my dream it was Scooby-Doo, and something big fell on Shaggy, and instead of comedy cartoon violence he got very seriously injured and lay still. Somebody thought he was dead, and everyone was very concerned, and everything became live action. Ambulances turned up, care was taken over moving him. Suddenly Scooby was a real dog; he couldn't talk and didn't understand what was going on, but he wanted to be with Shaggy, and Velma had to hug him to hold him back from rushing in and potentially fracturing Shaggy's spine further.

I'm a little vague on the next part, but basically Shaggy woke up (though he was still severely ill and had to stay in the hospital), and everything became cartoony again. Which I thought was a good use of shift in medium to portray tone.

Anyway, parts of the ambulance scene (still in live action - in the street, at night, in a crowd) carried over into the next dream, though this time I was part of the action instead of passively observing; I think I was some concerned husband (possibly the fit dad from the first season of Sarah-Jane Adventures?) who was in some way connected to the people being carried into the ambulance. I spotted somebody in the crowd who was strangely familiar - it was David Tennant's Doctor, which sort of registered on that back-of-the-head OOC way but my character wasn't allowed to immediately know. I approached him and there was some conversation - the details are vague but broadly speaking he thought I shouldn't know him. Either he hadn't met me in my past yet, or he'd thought the memory of it should have been removed. I think the dream continued with my character acting as sort of surrogate companion - or possibly we just kept crossing paths, and I demanded to know what was going on. I have a memory of a meeting in a graveyard. Beyond that it's confused.

And then I woke up.

It did get me thinking about an interesting format for a Doctor Who episode (or feature-length special) - something through the eyes of a normal, involved character. Not "Doctor-lite" to the extent of Blink or Love And Monsters, but rather following one character exclusively as the Doctor impacts on his/her life in a very real and present way. (Q.V. "Dead Romance" - though as a spin-off novel it doesn't directly feature the Doctor anyway, it's still seen through the eyes of the affected character rather than the protagonist.) It might make for an refreshing change ... or maybe it would just come over as self-insertion fanfic.

EDITED TO ADD: Just realised that the Scooby Doo trip to the hospital may well have been at least in part inspired by [livejournal.com profile] nattydreadi's recent escapades. Possibly.
