"And is this all?" cried Elizabeth. "I expected at least that the pigs were got into the garden, and here is nothing but Lady Catherine and her daughter."
Something about the figures caught Elizabeth's notice and she paused for a moment, peering into the distance with uncharacteristic concern. In the moment, the branches of a nearby tree rustled gently in the breeze. The other trees were silent.
"Actually," Elizabeth continued, "is that Lady Catherine? She seems unusually still. And now that I think on it, does she not customarily wear rather more ..." Here she paused again, trying to find a word both descriptive and acceptable in polite company. Finally she settled on, "... skin?"
"For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?"
