A link from today's Penny Arcade threw up this (admittedly dated) nugget - though Bioware has apparently advanced a little from their "same gender only" stance evidenced on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, there's still no man-on-man action.

'... players using a female character can initiate a sex scene "between her and male human or a female humanoid alien." Male characters, on the other hand, can only initiate sex "between him and a human woman or a humanoid female alien."'

Obviously this is somewhat out of context; not having played the game in question I can't say whether that's because you're only allowed to proposition certain genders based on your own gender, or if it's more that you're only allowed to proposition the characters to whom you become close in the game and, as it happens, only the female alien is responsive to same-sex shennanigans. Still, interesting.

Note to self: Jade Empire.

The comic itself was quite funny, but yeah, the story behind it was obscure indeed.

You have to admit, though, it was an exceptionally random column, and I have no problem with Tycho's apparent agenda of punishing stream-of-consciousness reporting.

It was laziness from Tycho. ("nothing new has happened, lets find some idiot to set my army of fans on"). Of course the columnist was going to rise to the bait, and of course he's going to enjoy his quick rise in page impressions.

An idiot with an online column who mouths off about a game they obviously haven't played is an easy target. Lazy and bullying behaviour for the Penny Arcade boys.

A bully is a bully, regardless of how many toys they donate to needy children.

You might try Fable in which man-on-man action is one of the two available options, and in which you can set up a harem of husbands across the land.

I think Fallout 2 also allows hot man on man action. It has the added bonus of being able to sell your significant other into slavery should you get tired of them.

True, the 'acquire a spouse' encounter allowed you to seduce or be seduced by either the farmer's daughter or his son, regardless of gender (though I seem to recall you had to have quite a high charisma to get into the son's bed as a guy). The man-on-man shotgun wedding is quite hilarious. In fact I think if you were good enough, you could sleep with them both and get out of marrying either, though this could have been but a fever dream of mine.

Both spouses were quite useless, and I was disappointed that the advertised 'pimp your spouse' play option never materialised. The box text seemed to sell Fallout 2 as a bit of an open-ended deal, with money-making options and so forth, but really most of it was quest based so eventually the money dried up.

Still an awesome game.

I think the first is a more coherent game. The second is far too sprawling and lacks focus. The plots and stuff in each town are cool, but taken as a whole it feels a bit too disjointed.

See how long you can hack it. It's pretty funny, it must have been an immense effort to rewrite all the dialogue just for nutters who decide to deliberately cripple themselves.

I recently tried to play FO:2 as a pre-FO:3 warm up. Couldn't get past Reading before wanting to pick up the PC and heave it out the window. It was awesome when I first played it, but I think you're right in the long term analysis - FO:1 is a better game overall.
