To summarise:

Saw Harry Potter 5: V good. Have not read book so do not know of any glaring omissions, but the film itself functions perfectly internally and does not leave any obvious holes. Also the militant music had me tapping the sound of drums a lot.

Have also watched Pan's Labyrinth. It is fucked up. I like it. Remain confused as to why Pan is mentioned in the translated title (the literal translation being The Faun's Labyrinth which makes more sense since the faun is not named as Pan at any point).

Have decided to move in with [livejournal.com profile] bacony and [livejournal.com profile] the_prince. Commute will now involve no motorway. Would 14 miles be too far to bike?

Apparently there is only one Cordova Avenue in all of Britain, fancy.

[livejournal.com profile] stsquad has a PS3. It is awesome. Am tempted to buy one for new place (though XBox 360 is a close runner also). Am also tempted to buy flat HDTV for new room. Will have to do something with old TV. Wonder if it is bigger than K&V's.

Have become Bridget Jones apparently.

The main gripe I had was with the editing being wierd in places and certain things they do in the book which are repeated in the film having absolutely no relevance because they ommitted the bit which makes it relevant. For example, in book Harry uses the Thestrals to get to London because his broom has been confiscated as punishment for a fight during a Quidditch match. In the film, it has not been confiscated so why doesn't he use it?

Also Fred and Geaorge's 'lets get ourselves expelled' rampage is actually done in the book as a distraction to let Harry sneak into Umbridge's office.

I did enjoy the film but I think you saw it the right way round by reading the book second :)

Did you see HP at IMAX? I'd heard they were doing that but haven't been about.

Pan's Labryth is superb, saw it at cinema when they did a prerelease to qualify for some awards.

Shall have to come round to play with PS3 visit...

14 miles in total is a fairly reasonable distance, 14 miles each way is a long way.

I think Mark cycles that each day. And you have seen what that has done for his body :-)

I do 7 miles to work, and its improved my calves. Not that they get much of a public outing, but I know.
14 miles is not an unreasonable distance, but it will feel long in crappy weather.
If your are planning to do it, start sooner rather than later, as putting it off until autumn, will make it seen colder.

I've also found the amount of cake I can eat and show no detrimental effect has greatly increased.

I love Pan's Labyrinth, one of my favourite movies. The translation is a bit conservative in places.

I think they went for Pan over Faun because it helped cross the cultural divide quickly and cleanly.

I liked Pan's Labyrinth. Have you also seen The Devil's Backbone?

it's not really rude at all sadly. it's good but a lot sparser than PL. but then again it had a fraction of the budget. i'd recommend it though.

Bear Pan Labyrinth in mind when new Changeling comes out this month.

And buy a Wii. They're more awesomer, and cheaper, and allow you to talk about wii bags in public.

I can heartily recommend 360s. Good consoles, certainly, cheaper than PS3 and at the moment better games support. I know this will change, but is a good buy, no doubt about it.

I also enjoyed HP5, and Pan's Labyrinth, a lot. This is why Mr Perry is not allowed to spring fauns on us in Forgotten Realms... :)

Your TV is probably not any bigger than ours, but if the sound isn't knackered (like ours is) it might nevertheless be better!

Apparently 'faun' is too similar to 'fawn' and the director was worried that people (maybe Americans, but trying not to be too specific here) would think it was the sequel to Bambi or something...
