I came out to my sisters this weekend!

I was on my way back from Paris (as you do) when it occurred to me that both of my sisters live in London and we really don't see each other. Also I figured it would be a good opportunity to mention the boyf.

(I've never felt it necessary to volunteer the basic fact of sexuality. After all, being gay is, and should be, the least interesting thing about you. However, a couple of years ago I decided if anyone asked I would be basically honest, and also that the event of having an actual partner would be news worthy of writing, or at least calling, home. At the back of my mind I thought it would be something better done face to face, and most likely not something to leave until Christmas. This weekend seemed the perfect opportunity.)

So I rang my sisters to arrange a meeting. There was some back and forth; my younger sister, being the nosiest of us, immediately asked why exactly I was in London ("coming back from Paris"), why I was in Paris ("visiting my boyfriend"), and oh ("yes, oh"). The next time I rang my older sister there was a smile in her voice and she asked if it would be just me - Jo (the younger sister) had mentioned my reasons for being in Paris. So, there went the idea of telling them to their faces.

In the event the meeting itself was fairly harmless - the subject wasn't even mentioned, we just chatted about Christmas plans and London and generally caught up. And the moral of our story is ... it just goes to show.

Dude, when were you in Paris?

When did your household acquire an international jet-set lifestyle?

Why is Sal in Paris? Is he doing some sort of student exchange thingy?

"Hamlet. Or Macbeth. One of those"

Nice. Any idea what part he's playing? It might give a clue?

Well done.

It just about beats my sister's coming out to me. Though that had the advantage of her being the one surprised.

Scene: A random pub on Canal St

Sister: I'm gay
Me: Really? Have you met my girlfriend? She's Bisexual.

And I second the jet set lifestyle comment.

When I told my sister, she said "Have you only just worked that out?"

*grin&*

Yes, yes and oh-god-yes...

I feel we live in dark times, the "Will And Grace Era", where being gay defines who you are, and is just Soooo FaShIoNaBlE!
