Okay, I've not said anything since the first announcement, but I'm having a party tomorrow.

It is to celebrate 10 years in Manchester - I arrived as a tallow student* in Autumn 1996 and they haven't managed to get rid of me yet. This also marks a decade of knowing many of my good friends, as I met them through WARPED and LARS (university sci-fi and LRP societies, respectively) in the first few weeks of term. I love you all.

Costume is optional. It is perhaps worth clarifying that it is costume that is optional, not clothing. Come dressed as something I like, and if I've got something related to it on DVD we may watch it. Or we may not - it's not explicitly a TV party. Turn up for music, video, light conversation and copious quantities of alcohol. Bring your own alcohol.

Anyway, I mention it now mostly to provide directions. The address is 202 Barton Road, Stretford, M32 8DP. Here's the route from Stretford Tram Station - if you're on foot, which you will be, ignore the diversion east along Edge Lane (that's there for dual carriageway reasons) and instead turn right out of the tram station. Basically you're heading straight on until just past the Stretford Mall and then turning right - the house is #202, it's on the right directly before School Road. You'll need to use the subway to get under Chester Road, it's a simple tunnel.

If you're in the car, well, we live here, enter your own start point. Easiest is probably the M60 junction 7[1] - coming off heading into Manchester, carry straight on past the wedge roundabout thing (stay in the left lane, labelled Urmston as you come off the motorway), past the traffic lights (Kingsway, with the pub on the corner), then take the first place you can turn right off the dual carriageway - this is School Road. Park up and return to the dual carriageway and turn left, #202 is a couple of doors down.

[1] Counterclockwise, ie from the north/west, I think junctions 7 and 8 use the same off ramp or something, so be on the lookout for signs for "Junctions 7 & 8". I usually come off at 9 but the directions are tricker from that direction. Travelling clockwise, just look out for signs to Stretford.

Those who have visited Chez Bennée before may be somewhat thrown that the door has changed; it is no longer green, it is now white and has no number. I include a photograph of the new door under the cut, for reasons of visual recognition.

Chez Bennee

If anyone's still confused, let me know.

Doors will be open from about 7.30 onwards, there is a reasonable amount of crash space (a bed or two, a few mattresses and a couple of Budda Bags for the brave). See you there!

* Callow. CALLOW.

Note for those like me that used it as an aid to house recognition: There is no longer a dog in the window.

DEAR GOD. YES.

There was a little sticker of a dog in the bottom of the bay window next to the front door, with wording that said something like 'I live here'. I understand that the unspoken inference is 'I am a big huge massive rottweiler (or similar) and I have been trained to attack, maim and kill all people who enter this house whom I do not know'. But my fear of dogs may be over-reacting to this somewhat.

Did you mean a "tallow student"? Because that conjours up all sorts of waxy imagery that I'm not sure I want in my head. :-)

In other news, the boy and I shall be there. We shall be coming direct from the 'Tree Hugging hippy shit (northern)' exhibition at G-mEx, and are therefore unlikely to be in costume.

We (I) intend for us to get a late bus/tram back to Mcr Central from yours and thence to the boy's house in Swinton.

Now I was informed (though clearly not reliably) last night that this is a Birthday Party, and not in fact a "10 years of Manchunia" party. Enjoy nonetheless!

See 'I' know that, because when I saw this post I looked at his LJ profile. I'm just saying that I was mis-informed.

Since me and Lins are still dying of plague it unlikely that we can make it. If, on the other hand, I feel even a litle better, I shall come dressed as something you like: me.

Should be there, will probably stay if there is space. Al is away this weekend so it'll be just me...
