This morning on Radio 4 (at 08:10, apparently) there was an interview with the man who heckled somebody in some speech last week. I forget who. Anyway, the point is he kept talking about how Britain, as all right-thinking countries, should live under Sharia law.

Every single time he said it I thought he was saying "Sha'ir". That made for a very surreal interview.

Actually I thought it was very interesting. It's not that he has no concept of politics - it's that he's trying to live in a completely different system. It's dangerous to judge any minority based on extremists but I found it quite insightful.

It is a dangerous thing to do. Most of the muslims I have met (and taught) are intelligent, sensible and able to hold a coherent debate. But then, I suppose most of the ones I meet are doing A levels and are therefore probably good enough to survive more than 10 seconds with a Radio 4 interviewer without shouting and getting ranty :)

Personally, I think the whole Sharia thing highlights why church and state should never be involved with each other in any practical way.
