Maelstrom.

Drove down on Friday. Whee, six hours in a car! That's always fun. Luckily, I had the forethought to create a special Drive Time MP3[1] CD for the occasion. Normally when I make up an MP3 CD for personal use - because of the space involved - I just drag entire albums across, secure in the knowledge that I can just skip forward when I get a track I don't like. Since this was for communal car usage I decided to make the effort and select individual tracks. I also mostly avoided my habitual urge to go "Oh em gee I love this quirky offbeat track and must introduce people to it!" which normally ends up in me cringing in embarassment when it comes up. I did slip some Jonathan Coulton on there for good measure, but his stuff's more mainstream than some of my crap. Still, the CD as a whole received the [livejournal.com profile] maddam seal of approval.

Maelstrom itself was fun, but I am still failing to get off my arse and get involved. I had great fun chasing the Fitzwarren across the site (into an OOC area - the cad), but aside from that I was mostly wandering around and hanging out with the Flembic Lower City. The FLC lot were, as ever, great people to hang out with, but there was a slight feeling that I was paying £££ to sit in a tent playing cards. Actually, now I think of it, I was doing a lot less of that than I did at the last event, though I can't remember what I was doing with my time. I suppose that's a sign of time well spent. Still, the excellent IC fortune-teller (combined with the one-year anniversary memorial) has spurred me, and I will be making more efforts to actually get off my arse and get involved.

Ah, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] samharber for loan of kimono and hakama (on a related note, anyone who says they can't go to the toilet while wearing hakama clearly isn't trying hard enough). I eagerly await seeing photographs of myself.

Am currently entertaining [livejournal.com profile] vervain_. We went to see Superman Returns; I enjoyed it, though there were some weak points. Still, I got to see a man throw an island into space, so I was happy.

[1] There was an item on Newsbeat recently about how listening to MP3s can damage your ears. I think what they meant was earphones.

There are two ways to tie a hakama - bum flap first, or bum flap last. As long as you tie it bum flap last, going to the loo is pretty straightforward.

Yes - it hides your feet and legs, meaning that your opponant can't see as easily how you're moving from your outline.
