Just rang work to let them know I will not be in again. Poor Alison on the desk seemed quite distressed (apparently three members of our department were not in due to car troubles yesterday, she's probably getting it in the ear) and got a bit snarky. "There are other people coming in from your area, you could get a lift - you should try and get in if it's at all possible - aren't there any trains?" All those people "in the area" (mostly around Bury, which is a nontrivial distance away) have probably left already, and any train journey would take approx 2-3 hours (via Leeds, then random buses), after which I would have to turn around and come all the way back in the evening to pick up my car, so no, it's not actually possible thank you.
