Continuing the theme of multiple short posts, I'm currently weighing up whether or not to shell out for [livejournal.com profile] stsquad's PDA. Since it was just lying about gathering dust, he let me borrow it about six months ago and, while I don't consider it a necessity, I do use it a fair amount[1]. It's quicker to start up than my PC, so it's more convenient for quickly checking the email, and it is nice to be able to log into an IM network from my bed.

Last night he drunkenly decided that it was about time he got around to installing Linux on it and that I had 24 hours to decide whether to buy it off him or not. I am, obviously, in two minds. It's a fun toy[2], but £150 is not a small amount of money - even if it is a good deal, which I think it might be. Mmmm, indecision...

[1] This is not such a good thing as might first appear. I have taken to using it in the morning when I really should be getting up. It's surprising how the time flies by when you're surfing the web on a relatively slow wireless palmtop.
[2] And I recently splashed out a whole £20 on a 1GB SD card for it, though obviously SD cards have other uses too.

I got the most basic iPaq you can do wireless with and that was about £120 after my staff discount, so you probably wouldn't be paying a great deal less for a more basic one than Alex's. Does sound like a good deal, it's more to do with whether you want to buy one in the first place or not.

they are nice toys, I have the same one. I've got tomtom satnav for it if you want a copy, though you'd need a reciever. May have one or two other bits of useful software too.

I take it this is a pocket pc rather than just a PDA? If so I've a stack of cd's and DVDs of software if you want copies?

You mean "yes it is". There, friendly product help.

It's a good deal. If you use it, choose it. It's obviously not going to be a wasted purchase left idle.

If it has bluetooth, you can hook it up with a GPS reciever, and merrily go Sat Navving about the country.
