LAZOR EYES

Okay, so.

Say for example I was considering my cashflow priorities, and thinking about placing laser eye surgery above housebuying[1]. I know one or two people have looked into (and undergone) the surgery before me. What organisations come recommended, and how much could I expect to pay?

[1] Not that housebuying has been a particular priority of late - I'm thinking in terms of "large expense" priorities. Contact lenses are a low-level irritation, but they are nonetheless an annoyance.

The ones I've been looking at are www.ultralase.com, about £995 per eye with interest free credit for 1 or 3 years depending on special offers.

www.opticalexpress.com are £695 per eye with 10 months interest free credit but you have to pay £400 in advance (£200 per eye). I want to go with them, but need to save up the £400!

There's another clinic in Bolton www.visualase.com. They were about a grand an eye again but didn't offer interest free credit.

Let me know what you decide to do - I'm still v. keen to get mine done too.

I used ultralase. They were brilliant and really put me at ease. The process was explained well and the tests were thorough. There is some discomfort in the procedure, but I knew exactly what was going to happen. At £995 per eye it was about the norm at the time (3 years ago), and with interest free credit and deposit of £200, no-one else were offering this deal. I guess now, most are cheaper and giving the same deals.

Should have added I'm -3.75 and -2.5. The costs change depending upon the level of correction needed, but the number on their websites are for only slightly bad eyesight.

I had mine done at Optimax in the city centre.

My eyesight has setld at at perfect vsion in my right eye but my left eye is slightly short sighted, less than -0.25 put which isnt really noticable nore worth contact lenses for. (My eyese where -3.5 and -2.5)

Thay offer two types of operation, the cheaper one has a longer recovery time of a week where the more expensive option (which i had) I could see fine and had no pain the next day.

You can get a free informaion pack from http://www.optimax.co.uk

www.lasik-eyes.co.uk has lots of info. Apparently they can all do worse eyesight.

How much was it? My prescription was the same as yours.

Get a potato peeler and a laser pointer and do it yourself.....

Well, with your degrees in lasers I suggest you test your skills out on Andy. If he can see afterwards, I'll not allow you anywhere near me anyway!

TJ and Mufi have both done it, IIRC, probably worth giving them a ring to ask about it

[identity profile] ajon.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They used the then Boots opticians service, now Optical Express. I believe that TJ had some issues with halos, I think Mufi's was ok. I'll ask them again at some point.

Sue also had hers done and is really happy with it.

I think Lee used Boots as well.

My eyes are great, no problems, no halo, vision seems to go a bit when I'm tired and haven't put any drops in (I have dry eyes), but other than that, I'm really happy.
