Nothing terribly new there, in terms of Catholic doctrine.

I myself learned the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection (or whatever the kids are calling it these days) during freshman biology in a Catholic high school. In 1980.

It's nice to see the Vatican calling out the wackos, though.

I myself have always - as long as I can remember - been of the opinion that those first chapters of Genesis must be somewhat blurred. You've got the infinite unknowable talking about stellar mechanics to an nth-century BC Hebrew. For dispersal to an audience of same. Of course He'd simplify.
