not at all - I like to think of how much more great stuff I could be doing if I wasn't stuck in this office 5 days a week.

I'd take a few courses, develop a few more hobbies, spend more time with my peeps and more time travelling. people who say that are the sort of people who wouldn't know how to fill the extra time!

Certainly for me a job has to be an intellectual challenge otherwise I don't take it. It forces me to think about tricky problems every day. And I'm sure thats not just true for programmers.

When you say kpet man do you mean a house husband or lying on a couch all day being waited upon hand and foot? If it's the former that involves lots of work, if the latter expect me to inform La Resistance.

I don't know about hand and foot, that would be boring - but I'd like to be able to just do my own thing all day. I think "gentleman of leisure" may be a better term.

occasionally my job throws up intellectual challenge - but not as much as I could get from a good hobby or continued education. my job is for money and nothing more and my money is for living nothing more.
order of importance
job->money->freetime and friends
if job ever starts to impinge on the last one there'll be trouble!

Personally, I believe that I wouldn't mind if my guy didn't want to go to work - fiancially, he'd be a kept man, but on the other hand, I'd want him to be pretty-much a house-husband - ie. I'd not want to have to stress about ANY housework and making food and tidying and I'd want to be pampered a bit and I'd want to have my sex on demand!

But I would prefer if he had a bit of ambition and self-reliance. I'm a very independant person and don't understand why anyone would want to be "kept" on a long-term basis!

I'd be SOOO bored after a couple of weeks - remember the school holidays - how crap were they! - But pay me to take a couple of weeks off work and be pampered - that'd be nice! :D

I think I could live with those terms.

I'd probably try to take the opportunity to make a go of some form of artistic career though.

I used to date this guy called Marc - he lived off me for months and even when he had a job he treated my home like a hotel. I got sick very very quickly and it has made me somewhat harsh in my work ethic.

As long as you can support yourself as a gentleman of leisure - ie live of royalties, I suppose it's up to you.

I was actually referring to the French lot. Just realised I have the wrong period in history - I meant the revolutionaries. Close enough. It's Friday. grr.

After some discussion I think my ideal situation would be somewhere between the two extremes. I wouldn't want to be waited on hand-and-foot, but neither would I wish to be solely responsible for the housework. I would try to make some small contribution to household expenses by way of illustration.

Maybe I'd even try my hand at acting or writing ... all those careers that I've always rather fancied but considered to be too much of a gamble.

What I really need is a sugar daddy...

Thought it'd be too much of a coincidink to have two Marcs (spelt with the "c") to be that lazy... But then didn't know where about "wiserabbit" lives and with LJ you could have been anyone anywhere! :P
