Recap for the uninitiated: It began with a cardboard tube.
A little over a year ago, the artist at video-game-based webcomic Penny Arcade found a cardboard tube in the trash. He took it home and used it as a Samurai Sword of Justice and Death. Thus was the Cardboard Tube Samurai born. CTS has gleaned some small popularity among readers, and such is the recursive nature of things that some of this readership lies within the very industry that creates the games upon which PA casts its critical eye.
In Wednesday's news post, word reached Gabe that his famous cardboard tube was now available as an easter egg in the latest Legacy of Kain game. If screenshots are to be believed, it is true.
I can imagine the sheer feeling of glee that comes with finding something you made being referenced in a big media product like that. It's probably how the people behind Homestar Runner felt when Trogdor the Burninator featured in the final episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The closest thing I've had is the occasional stupid grin when I find somebody's stuck a Random Encounter up on their wall ... oh, and that one time when Kate Orman asked for permission to put one of my doodles up on her website. Yeah, that was pretty cool.
Boing! Time for bed.
