Am looking (hesitantly) at the possibility of going onto a mobile phone contract.

The current trend with the T-Mobile contracts appears to be to offer double the call time for six months and half the line rental for three.  While this may or may not be a great deal, it has the unfortunate side effect that after six months you're paying twice the price for half as much ... not in fact a great motivator.

Still, in T-Mobile's favour is that one can browse their site by price plan, rather than by phone, which is something that Vodafone appear to lack.  No I don't want to select a phone first.  No I don't.  Take it away.  Let me determine how much I want to pay in a month, then show me what handsets are available on those deals.  Fuckers.

I was wondering how long that deal lasted. Hmm, all of a sudden the Razr doesn't seem so far out of reach.

When you say three months, is that because that's when the initial deal gives out or is it 3 months regardless? Only there doesn't seem to be a way I can get the web discount and at the same time keep my existing number...

The only way to get that is to buy a sim from a different network, port your t-mobile payg number onto it, then get the web account and port the number back over. Complicated but doable.

I can explain at Maelshot, but the deal I can get you is available to any TMUK contract that has been connected for over 3 months. It is seperate to anything that you may have available from dealers.

But but ... that's just awkward and annoying. If they can port numbers accross, why can't they do it from their own network...? It's not just complicated, it's expensive...

Well, alright, not necessarily that expensive. (Would a Vergin SIM work? I understand they use the same network somehow...)

yes, any other network - just check and make sure virgin don't have a minimum time that you need to stay connected for.

Of course you could use this as an opportunity to get rid of your number so that only the people you want to have it, have it.

Hmm, that is a good point. Plus of course I could keep the old number for, say, giving out to people I don't necessarily want to be able to contact me all the time or, er, something. Ooh, hey, or I could carry two phones around with me, one for business and one for pleasure!

Is there a time limit for transferring a number, like does it have to be done within X of signing up? I was thinking of buying now and sorting the number out later.

you can sort the number out anytime you like but from past experience quicker is better as people will realise that you are accessible on a new number and will amend entries to match.
