In other news, I have several DVDs that I want to watch. Second Coming, Eight-Legged Freaks, Invincible. People should come to my house and watch them with me, tomorrow afternoon. Let me know, I might ring around tomorrow but for now I am going to go and read JLA: The Obsidian Age.

Date: 2003-11-23 02:59 am (UTC)Obsidian Age was the one story arc that I somehow managed to entirely miss in comic form. Seriously, I have the prelude issue and the epilogue issue. Did they start releasing two issues a month or something? Because there was about six months where I failed to pick up my standing order, and something like twelve issues seem to have come out in that time. So I bought it yesterday in graphic novel format.
It is good stuff, and possibly worth buying for the super-special DVD commentary (ie, afterword at the end). Although probably not if you already own the individual issues.
The time travel stuff almost works. Most of the time they avoided contradicting themselves or setting up paradoxes; I was afraid they would bring the JLA back from the dead by travelling back in time to before they died and saving them, which they couldn't do because then there would have been no bodies for them to find and know that they had to go back. They managed to avoid that, but then they broke the containment spell 3000 years before it was supposed to be broken ... so the whole story couldn't really have happened, if you think about it. Having said three pages earlier "We can't stop the spell from going up", they had no problem with breaking it just after it was cast.
Well anyway, that's a minor niggle. An epic story with massive ideas, and Apache Chief. Inukchuk!
