Car update

kingandySo, Raj is in the shop. The mechanic was dubious at first and quoted 500 pounds for just paint and labour, with parts being extra, but realised most of it was cosmetic, and they could probably pick up spares from a breaker's yard much more cheaply than fixing the existing bits and repainting. So, he reckons, it should cost about that all in, assuming the entire engine doesn't fall out when the grill is removed.
At first he came up with a complicated plan that involved dropping money off today (so he could buy the parts) and then dropping the car off tomorrow. I think he thought I was still using the car as it was. I told him it would be far easier for me to leave the car here now and nip off to get the cash. 200 quid. Here's hoping Raj turns out to be OK inside, I'd hate to waste that much money on a non-starter...
If all goes well he might be ready by the weekend, but I won't hold my breath. Luckily offers of lifts have been forthcoming, so we should get there by hook or by crook.
Tried to fit the starter to the Rover yesterday afternoon, but the Metro starter isn't nearly so accessible as the Mini we took it out of. It's right down the bottom. If Raj doesn't make it I'll pay somebody to come and fit the starter for me, otherwise I'll just get rid of it and the car.
Mixed feelings about last night's D&D session being cancelled (was it only last night? It seems weeks ago). Sad that my friends missed out. Happy that I did not miss anything. Sad that I did not get to phone them up in the middle and tell them to stop having fun without me, that would have been funny. Overall: Apathetic.
