Indecision
Feb. 13th, 2005 03:28 pmAm trying to stat an Artificer character, and I find myself with 6 points left to spend (out of 24). This seems unreasonable and I am trying to find ways to spend them without powergaming. For example, I have lowered my Mind stat because I believe it suits the character, and while I could easily afford to put it back up - and the benefits are not inconsiderable - I am somewhat reluctant. I could blow it all on starting cash but that seems like such a waste. There must be a happy medium. Maybe I'll buy all the various weapons uses, even though I can't afford to own any of them...
UPDATE: Seems
nattydreadi doesn't have as much spare cash as previously thought, so I'm blowing all 6 skill points on starting cash (give me 12 silver = 1 gold = 1 sword). I'll put in a note saying any spare cash is to be changed back into weapon skills. Bah.

Date: 2005-02-13 03:33 pm (UTC)If it's some sort of weapon user then why not get enough cash to get a weapon they can use? It'd be reasonable to assume someone who'd make use of a weapon would have one.
Area knowledge might be a relatively safe bet also. - Just about any character could have knowledge of an area, the third or fourth rings would have a large number of people who know about them I'd expect.

I already have a smattering of Area Knowledge, though it's really my counterpart

Armour and/or Dodge sound like they'd work.
Blacksmithing might work, depending on who in your troupe sorts out the weaponry.
I'm not sure too much else would fit...

Date: 2005-02-13 05:25 pm (UTC)You can afford Advanced Armour 3 + 3
Likewise Dodge 1 + 3 (this has the advantage that you will never loose the armour and you don't have to buy it with money you don't have).
You could also go for a specialisation in Dagger, allowing it to be used in your off hand. Dagger and Sword and two Daggers are always good for bodyguards
Have you got City Survival? you can construct traps with the advanced level :).

Date: 2005-02-13 05:40 pm (UTC)Hmm ... at the moment I've got 2WF and Ambidex for Bastard Sword, it might make more sense to get it for Dagger or Short Sword because that's what I'd be using in the offhand (the chance of two Bastard swords is minimal).
City survival I had not considered, I just assumed it was strictly for the wilderness. Cheers!
