Old Boybands Don't Die
Dec. 20th, 2004 12:46 amOne of my birthday presents, from my younger sister, was the soundtrack to "School Of Rock". (Despite the associated movie, the CD itself is not bad - though readers are advised to take my musical taste into account when processing that statement. Almost every song featured in the movie is represented here, from quality classic rock tracks from The Doors, The Who and The Cream, to new favourites such as The Darkness. Though not the Darkness track that's in the actual film, of course, because "Black Shuck (Why Don't You Give A Fuck?)", which in the movie was faded out just before the lyrics kicked in, is not entirely suitable for the target audience.) Infortunately the CD case was broken - all the spindles had come away, leaving the CD flapping around inside. Obviously this was a bad thing, and had to be remedied.
Because all replacement CD cases are to some degree opaque and I wanted the whole sleeve to be visible, I splashed out yesterday on a CD in a pound shop - £1 for a replacement CD case, bargain. (Maybe not. I don't know. But at least it was fully transparent.) As an added bonus, it came with a free CD! It is a single - a piece of throwaway boyband dross from last year, by a group who wittily called themselves "D-Side". Because, "D-Side" as in two rungs down from a "B Side", and "Decide" as in decide to throw it out in case it accidentally falls into the CD player.
The first vocal in the song is "Tragic!" Which sort of makes sense. Like PJ and Duncan before them, D-Side are now big in Japan.
