Cha-ching!

Fancy a 15" flatscreen monitor for less than £200?  You have to take a computer off their hands first...

Here's how! )

It looks like a pretty good deal to me, most of the people in the office seem to be excitedly ordering them.  (Hell, even if it's a shitty flatscreen, it's still a flatscreen, with a not-too-bad-at-all system thrown in to boot.) If anybody who knows more about hardware or - f'rexample - the hardware retail business could point out any obvious flaws, I'd welcome any input...

UPDATE: Looks like they have noticed their mistake - they've moved the goalposts. Base price is still the same, only the cheap-ass monitor and minimum RAM is standard rather than a lower-scale option. So the lowest you can get it is £400. Should have placed that order while I could...

IN UNRELATED NEWS, the description of November's Doctor Who book release, The Indestructible Man, seems strangely familiar. One man fate has made indestructible? PRISM? SILOET? Secret airborne landing strips? This is the voice of the Myloki...

Note to self: Use fewer ellipses...

Having read some of the discussion on Pagga about how any magic rules you have in an LRP should be an integral part of the game world rather than just a point-and-click overlay, I am tempted (as all LRPers seem to be in this modern climate) to write my own system.  It would revolve around astrology being a real and quantifiable force in the world - people born in certain months would have predispositions towards certain careers.  Sort of a cross between SoS's Multiplier system and more traditional class-based RPGs.  People born in Month X would find it cheaper to buy Skill Y, more expensive to buy Skill Z, and so forth.  There could also be a bunch of skills (only available at character creation, merit-style) based on what specific day of the year you were born on.

Now that I think it through, the system would also lend itself quite well to "times per day" skills - the universe ebbs and flows, so "magic" revolves around determining the best place, day, and in its most refined form, moment to perform an action - there may be only three or four moments in any given day, for example, when a strike with a particular sword, wielded by a particular person, deals a mightier blow than normal.  Or whatever.  It would be a high book-learning campaign in which the learned would wield all the power.  Probably no gods save Science (though some may consider the reading of the stars an art).

I don't know, it's just an idea.  I have an image of white beards and stained glass.  For some reason.

Angelus

So I'm trying to put together a costume for [livejournal.com profile] nattydreadi's Angels And Demons party (on the 6th Nov).  I've pretty much got all the kit for this (though I lack the halo, hairstyle and buffness), but without seeing the picture beforehand it looks a little mundane.  I was trying to put together an all-white version (a la Marty Hopkirk), but that's proving a bit hard and/or expensive.

It occurred to me a few days ago, though, that one can always just put on a hoody under a jacket, and go as any number of angels from Dogma.  Or, no, those are hooded jackets, aren't they?  Well, anyway, every angel in that movie has a hood.  (It's like, how they hide their wings.)  Maybe I'll fall back on that. ;)

It's half past eight on Friday night, and I am in Stretford.  I'm debating whether to roll over to Middlewood (15-20 minutes drive, if that) to catch the evening's tavern-based roleplay at this month's SoS event.

I am coming to the conclusion that I would rather stay here for the night, and pick it up tomorrow morning.  If I go to the camp site I will only catch a couple of hours of waiting for people to come back off the linear, and an hour or two of heavy drinking.  Here, there is Green Wing and Freakazoid.

Yes, I will see them in the morning.  All is well.
