Apologies for the plug, I'm trying to get hold of UK Larpers! I really hope you don't mind...
As you know by now the Tsunami crisis is still continuing, with more aid needed every day. The people affected will need aid over the next few months, maybe even years.
Members of WARPsoc (War Gaming and Role-Play Society) at Aberystwyth University plan to lend our support to the LARP AID plan mentioned on pagga.com. Our aim is to hold a LRP (Live Action Role-Play) Combat Tournament on the 5th and 6th of March, running over the weekend, with various stalls, and the chance to meet LRPers from across the UK in order to raise money.
This tournament (which will take place in Aberystwyth) will take the form of several one on one fights and melee battles in a given number of weapons categories including (but not limited to) one handed, two handed and paired weapons categories. All fights will be completely in character and will be marshalled and judged by our own members, who will also be in character.
The cost to attend will range from a minimum of £2 to attend and spectate, to £10 to participate with maximum stats (the minimum cost to participate is £4). All proceeds go to the charity (which, since the accommodation is being lent to us for free, will be anything you pay to attend). The event will be self-catering (mainly places to eat out, but for £2.50 per head on the Saturday night you can have soup and rolls), and sleeping space will be provided. There will be a bar open during the day for non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, and after tournament hours all drinks will be available. There will also be other opportunities to donate.
If you're interested, or there's a group of you that are, please contact me at biatchangel@hotmail.com? Let me know numbers of participants if you wish to attend and we will send you the booking forms. I'm happy to answer any questions here Also, if you know of anyone who might be interested, let them know!
