The thought that counts

If you buy a present for somebody, and then see it cheaper somewhere else, and take it back to the first shop and buy it from the second, it doesn't mean you love them any less, does it?  I am experiencing unreasoning urges to buy something else with the money I saved.  But surely it's the thought that counts.

In other news, gowhonker is apparently swanning off to Newcastle for new year instead of spending it with the Boltonicans.  Naturally I am taking this personally.

It doesn't mean you love them any less.
The value of the joy gained from a gift does not decrease if it was bought somewhere else for less.

That's what I keep telling myself, it's all relative.

Bah, I get into this every year - usually I buy a bunch of presents for my family early on, and then decide they're not worth enough (or good enough) and have to go back and buy more. I suppose I am just a big, materialistic old Hector.
