Mmm, synchronicity.  Alright, it's not quite hot-air-baloon paper frogs, but it's close enough to count.

Yesterday I was mostly playing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - mmm, tasty.  I managed to get right the way through in a single day (to my possible shame).  I particularly liked how you can track your progress through the game by the state of the Prince's shirt, which is slowly but steadily torn off.  What's that you say, an athletic young man with floppy hair obeying my every whim?  Yeah, boys!

Some of the combat was a bit annoying - the platform puzzle sections are interspersed with the occasional "fight scene" where you have waves of sand-posessed zombies coming at you four at a time, not staying dead until you manage to successfully knock them down and drain the sand out of them with your dagger.  There were times when this proved very tricky indeed, with three heavily-armoured enemies swinging great big swords (difficult to block, harder to hit) effortlessly keeping you away from their fallen comrade.  But I can forgive them this on the basis that (1) it wasn't so hard I couldn't complete the game in a day, and (b) the rest of the game was so darn nifty.  Aside from the aforementioned eye candy there was some great comic interplay from the Prince and his romantic interest - they bitch and snipe at each other in very natural ways, often incorporating elements of the environment.  The levels are nicely laid out, there's hints on what to do next in the form of visions (usually just pretty or portentious, but in one or two cases they really did stop me from needing to look up a walkthrough because I had to do something I'd already ruled out...).  Just a really good game.

I have also done some jobseeking.  There seem to be more vacancies than there were two years ago, but from what responses I've had I suspect the number of fakes (in order for the agency to get your CV) has gone up.  Am a bit down, having consulted bank balance today.  Should be alright for a few months yet, but certainly less than I thought...

Hmm.  Must talk to [livejournal.com profile] bacony about that.

Mark W:Talk to Matt H aka Delvy as he should know about that sort of thing, being in the industry and all now :).
