Birthday glee!
Nov. 17th, 2004 12:47 pmSo yesterday lunchtime I went into town and bought lots of toys for myself! Using my birthday cash I splashed out on the new GBA Zelda game, and Neverwinter Nights with its two expansion packs. One of these will only be played rarely; the PC is not so portable as the GBA. (Maybe I should swap my PCs around, I'm using the one in Ilkley a lot more now I have a net connection, and it would be nice if it could actually play my newer games.) I also bought some shoes (two pairs, one of which was Ben Sherman, though only because they seemed comfy and were in a half price sale) as a present from my Mum.
Then, away to Bolton! JESUS FUCK HEADLIGHTS. They are increasingly unstable. I think my "ease them on" trick may be slowly burning out the relays or something. The naked steering wheel assembly (the electrician never closed it up, on the basis that it would have to come off again soon enough) heats up alarmingly around the base of the stem; I suspect this is not normal. Thursday night may be off unless I can leave work early (possible). Am looking into light stems.
The evening at
samharber's was filled with fun and laughter, we rolled up Runequest characters (which became a lot easier after Sam started helping us rather than just throwing reference sheets) and had a test fight (I died quickly). It seems that when
pkgem and
gowhonker are both playing a game they cannot help but create sexual tension between their characters - this despite the fact that Gem usually plays a man (and in this case a man duck), so by the end of the evening we had agree the three of us would be in a complicated three-way relationship. Gay furvert threesomes, huzzah!
During the course of the evening I was also given magical presents of joy;
pkgem wittily gave me a calendar featuring The Busteds[1], as well as a robot that WALKS UP WALLS[2], and
gowhonker gifted me with a wonderful miniature Mega Drive (that's Genesis for you yanksmy American friends) that actually plays six different games on your television![3] I love them both, though obviously not equally because Gem is a girl and has cooties and such. Ick, ptoo.
Sam gave me nothing and I hate him. Not really of course! The power of suggestion.
Then I went home to Nook's and generated a Mage character. Nook's careful management of the rule book meant it only took an hour, since I was unable to spend half a day flipping back and forth between two skill descriptions trying to decide which was better. TBH I had the character mostly down already, it was really just a question of finalising spheres and picking backgrounds. Though I did dither a little over some of the skills.
In the morning I found I was locked in, just as Nook got in the shower. After some deliberation I decided to wait until he was out and nominally covered to ask for a key. It was probably for the best.
[1] It's nice enough, but the picture on the front is vastly superior to any of the individual month ones. In fact I kept getting distracted by Tall Busted's big brown eyes and startled expression.
[2] Very much like the one I showed to
myki on the webcam a few weeks ago, spookily enough, but this one is better because it has CYLON EYES
[3] I had hopes that it would also take a standard MD cartridge, because I have a number of them that I have not been able to use since my console burned out. Sadly it does not. Still, I have more Megadrive than I did a week ago, for which I am thankful.

It's alright though, even if you are up to something I trust that it will be something nice.[1]
