Marvel Sues City Of Heroes.

I can totally see their point regarding Wolverine - TBH I was always a little wary of the foot-long knuckle-projected claws.  I'm less convinced by their Hulk argument.  Sure, you can design somebody who's big, green, wears shorts and punches people.  (And I'm positive many people already have.)  But seriously, it's not like any of those features are actually unique to the Hulk...

I'm going with Scott Kurtz' take on the issue...

I don't think Marvel were planning any forays into the MMPORG arena anyway. TBH I don't think there's much of a market conflict ... they're genuinely trying to protect their copyrighted properties. Unfortunately, Wolvers aside (and that type of claw has actually been around for a while generically, in such things as Cyberpunk), I don't feel they have a leg to stand on.

They're working on an MMO with Vivendi at the moment. It's a malicious lawsuit if ever I saw one.

According to Kurtz, the Vivendi deal fell through. Since he doesn't seem to archive his news once it falls off the bottom of his front page, I'll copy it here:

"The Vivendi/Marvel deal died a long time ago apparantly. More than likely, Marvel is just defending it's trademarks because if they don't they feel they leave a door open. It's similar to what Disney does all the time. I'll certainly be watching for more details."

So now you know. And knowing is half the battle!
