No, I was doing about 50 on a straight bit of road coming out of a shallow corner for which I had slowed to about 40

I take that corner without breaking twice a day in the dry at about 60.

Aquaplaning is when you hit a thin sheet of water that removes any semblance of traction between the tyres and the road. Slightly scary if you're going in a straight line, terrifying if you're going around a bend.
