New World Ordo was excellent fun. I spent a great deal of time pretending to know more than other people, and I think I largely pulled it off. Spent a lot of time talking to Flavia; initially sparring but later (following certain events that changed her outlook somewhat) in a more conspiratorial sense. There was a point on Saturday afternoon when I had nothing to do - because half my plots were complete, the other half were at a point where I could do nothing with and one - securing the Library of White Prahova - I had no clue how to begin. There seemed no particular reason to conduct such discussions at Tribunal, especially when the Quaesitor Maximus of the Transylvania Tribunal wasn't present. In fact I didn't speak to anyone from that tribunal all weekend. I think Hammad will just send a message via the usual channels to make sure the locals are doing their jobs.

Think my costume more or less worked, despite the almost total lack of impact from the black hair dye (most of it fell off when I rinsed it as per instructions; I suspect I may have towel-dried it far too well as there was no lather to speak of). Was certainly much less hot in my single layer arabic nightshirt gown thing than everybody else in their heavy velvet robes and fur. Naturally I will require pictures of myself to fret over, and convert into LJ icons, before I can be sure.

Among the high points of the weekend was Iago's legal defense of somebody he clearly did not wish to defend. Use of the phrases "When he slid the stiletto knife through the victim's ribs..." and "Upon looting the corpse..." is not something one expects from the defense. Highly entertaining. Certain quarters may also be excited to learn that [livejournal.com profile] arwel and [livejournal.com profile] mrssshhh were lovers for the weekend. Or at least rutting.

I do wish I'd spent more time reading certain of the documents in my player brief - I'm going through it now and a lot of things are becoming clear. (I may even, eventually, put names to faces.) Specifically I wish I'd payed more attention to the Ring of Copper - my small secret society of mages working on gleaning information from an oracle of sorts - which I had only skimmed, paying more attention to the summary in the personal player brief. I wish I'd spent less time reading the Levant Tribunal briefing, which I strongly suspect I was not supposed to have received (based on the paragraph at the end explaining that Hammad had been given only a sketchy summary of the events - but this was still useful, since the summary given was slightly different from the summary in Hammad's personal brief, which did not mention he'd been told the item in question was destroyed). Luckily I bumped into Najmet on the first night, who told me more or less the entirety of the Levant briefing IC, so I didn't have to worry about not knowing it. Certain fragments of information were hard-won from the player pack (specifically the details of the Caduceus Affair - the Ring of Copper briefing noted that I'd asked after his identity, and the RoC summary within Hammad's personal brief noted that this was the only question he'd really been interested in, but the Affair itself was only mentioned in the Rights and Duties of a Quaesitor, and in passing in the Who's Who as a note under somebody else's entry, neither of which were particularly illuminating), but I eventually pieced it together, and I can only boggle at the sheer amount of work that went into coordinating the massive amount of information into the largely user-friendly format that it is, so I'm certainly not going to complain.

The "pre-written characters" mode of LRP has its benefits and its drawbacks; the primary drawback obviously being the massive amount of homework required. The benefits, I think, more than outweigh this - you're guaranteed of an interesting character that comes complete with a number of interwoven preexisting relationships and contacts, and automatic plot including goals and personal win-conditions. (Naturally when I say "guaranteed" it comes with the caveat that the writing team is halfway competent, which NWO certainly is. ... Meant in a nice way.) The other advantage (one easily missed) is that you get to play a character written by somebody else. When anybody writes a character they cannot help but use themselves as a starting point; they will be defined in ways in which they are or are not like yourself. If somebody else writes your character they'll have a fundamentally different foundation, which can make it one that you would never have thought of yourself. This is also, of course, one of the unspoken drawbacks - you'll never be as intimately familiar with the character or as immediately comfortable as with one you invented yourself.

I'll be hoping to attend the next event, if and when, but I think I will push for a less knowledgeable and more social character. I wanted to join in the IC drinking and enthusiastic talk of rutting but I really didn't think it was Hammad's scene...

Saw [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis in his civvies for the first time. Think I heard somebody accusing him of chavhood. Given the high quantity of striped sportswear on display, I find it hard to refute. But at least he was a well-turned-out chav, the white was pristine and the vest neatly pressed. Was disappointed to be reminded that he does not in fact speak like Hedonismbot; in my mind he is much more languid. Still, good to see him, and indeed everybody there. Am looking forward to In The Silent Hours ahem ahem.

The ride home was somewhat longer than anticipated, taking six hours to get from Derby to Manchester (unusual). This is because I swung by Bradford to drop [livejournal.com profile] mrssshhh off, and there was a traffic jam on the M62. Given certain earlier hypotheticals I may or may not have posed I feel it necessary to note that I am not stalking him. Except maybe a little.

I will close (because it is late and I still need a shower) by mentioning that I received a complement on my roleplaying, which always cheers me up. That is all.

safe as fuck.

I care not for accusations of chavdom, I was a lot less sweaty than most there and my feet don't hurt as much as they would otherwise.

You fuckin knows it.

In my defence, what I ended up wearing was my "comfy go home" kit. However, having endured my leathers through Friday's heat I decided I'd rather risk chavdom than melt and dribble out of my own boots.

You are considerably taller and more softly spoken than I thought you'd be. And you give good arched eyebrow.

I wouldn't call [livejournal.com profile] wulfboy a "strange" man. Odd, certainly, but not strange.

Kirstie said afterwards that she was terrified of what was, effectively, a very daunting brief, and got through it off the back of roleplaying with you and [livejournal.com profile] immerwahr (Cicero). Another compliment to add to your collection :-P

"Certain quarters may also be excited to learn that arwel and mrssshhh were lovers for the weekend".
How does this differ from any other weekend?

Heh, you wouldn't say "Ahhh", if you'd have read the briefs. Xavier made Gawain feel as happy as he did when he was murdering people flesh bags. Xavier was more than ready to use his newly discovered control of Gawain to further his own ends, or even sacrifice him should the need arise. It was love, but a pretty sick one. Pretty good if you like leather and knives though.
