Raj's starter motor is apparenly in need of replacement (he was not starting; the battery was clearly working but there was no starter motor activity happening, so after a brief look for fuses - with [livejournal.com profile] stsquad's help - I called the AA again). Cock. One wonders if it would not be worth buying a new car instead, at this point. Sadly this is not practicable, so I will be calling around Sunday-opening garages tomorrow.

Hopefully Raj will start so I can get him to the garage - apparently there is a likelihood that he will, but if not then I must get somebody to twist the key while I tap the starter motor with a hammer (to close the contacts or something). That, or push-start it.

I'm not, however, relying on his starting to get me home from anywhere, so am staying in. So if there's anyone in the Stretford area who feels like dropping by to keep me company I would be glad of it.

Nah. Turn the ignition on, put the car in second with your foot on the clutch, take the handbrake off and either let the hill roll the car or get someone to push. Once you're moving steadily, take your foot off the clutch fast-ish and gun the accelerator at the same time. The car should catch and run but it might take two or three gos.

I've never done any work on a Honda so no help there; but most starter motors can be jollied along by two or three sharp clouts with a hammer.

The good news is that old hondas are of fairly solid construction and cheap easily available parts. Any mechanic should be able to get it going again with a minimum of fuss.

this is of course assuming RAJ is K reg or later.
