Just rang ntl: to cancel services at the end of the month (which actually requires 30 days' notice, good job my Mum reminded me yesterday).
First time, I selected "change of address" in the multi-choice menu. I got through right away, but I was a little thrown when I was told I needed to give them the exact address I was moving to. This is partly so they can send bills and whatnot - fair enough, really - but also, apparently, because you're dealth with by a different department depending on whether it is a service or non-service area. Presumably, if it's a service area they pass you over to sales, who try to win you back with discounts and witchcraft, whereas if you're going to a non-service area you're not worth bothering with.
So anyway, I hung up before I remembered that, yes, I do know Alex's house number and street name, so I can look it up on Mapquest. Having secured the address I rang back, but this time selected "change package details" and "thinking of leaving ntl:".
In the "leaving" queue, the automated lady told me there was a wait of approx. 11 minutes.
Leaving in droves.
Oh, ps, on a related note, I guess my ntlworld.com address will stop working at the end of the month. Start using andysdrawings.co.uk or compsoc.man.ac.uk (andy and fisher respectively).
