I noticed, while watching it, that comedy shows here in the states are timed far differently. British comedy is a lot less forgiving with time, it seems; they pack more actual stuff into a minute and force you to take it (bitch!) at the pace they've set, whereas American comedy always seems to be wait and wait for its audience to execute a calculated thirty-second laugh that will never come.
