D'oh!

Against better judgement, have ordered CoH from Merka. Fool that I am! I'm sure I won't make up the cost in play-hours. Oh well. Those in the know: is the character generator available for use offline? If so, might get some use out of that even after I stop subscribing to the online game...

Completed KotOR, on Light Side, and am now playing it through on Dark. The game itself is much quicker, easier and more seductive, though I'm personally having a hard time burying my benevolent instincts and being mean to people. (Partly because I know you get rewards and snackies from completing quests... it's hard not to volunteer to help people, or to find a way to do it for selfish reasons.) Despite this, have rapidly gravitated to the very bottom of the dark side scale - which I didn't manage to do on light side, and I'm now considering playing through again with a really determined lightsider, since the absolute-dark graphic on the character summary screen is so cool (my first character was a bit of a fence-sitter to begin with and kept asking for rewards, though he was able to fight it somewhat later on when the importance of being earnest became apparent). I'm, like, almost invisible in the dark smoke around my feet while the red mist behind me glows brightly and I'm on fire. You may be aware that the character's appearance changes as you go darkside too, which is bizarre as it isn't really reflected in the dialogue - as a hideously deformed and obviously malevolent woman I've still got Carth (primary male romantic interest) coming on to me with lines like "You're a beautiful woman". I get to flirt back, too, which is really odd because I picture myself as having a corrupted hissy voice. "Oh, hssss, I could never stay angry, hsss, at you..."

(Rather disappointed that the scriptwriters only allow for strictly hetero couplings, also. Oh well.)

In fact, the extreme darksider is not particularly well catered for in the dialogue ... I'm wandering around casually murdering people, doing things specifically designed to make people suffer, my skin is white and covered with veins and my eyes are a dead yellow colour, and the best Bastila can come up with is vague concerns that "These actions may lead towards the Dark Side". Perhaps my companions are too scared by me to say anything really definite on the subject.

So cool. Shame it has turned me into a social outcast, but you can't win them all. And this way I get to be in Star Wars!

so lonely

Judgement be damned. You can't use the chargen offline, you have to login first.

The only game I can bring to mind that allows non-hetero couplings is probably "The Sims". Where it can happen without warning on occassion, the little tykes.

And while I remember - stop moping about! You there, at the back, doodling andpeering pensively out the window! You're far too grown up for all this silly boyfriend/girlfriend business! And if you're not, well you'll just have to die your hair black, listen to "The Smiths" and do little shuffling dances, and I know you don't want that!

How can you be lonely anyway; you are adrift in a sea of love, remember.

I find it helps to be spiteful to young lovers. It not only cheers me up, it gives them a "crisis" to triumph over, which apparently is good forthem. Although, of course, any relationship founded on crisis tends to fall apart shortly after the credits roll.

I was impressed with KotOR much as I was impressed with Torment - both of them tried to create a more immersive world than "open the door, kill the monster, get the XP".

I remember reading a rumour at the time that you could get Barett to go on a date with you in FF7 if you were sufficiently nasty to all the girls. I chose Tifa 'cos Aeris was a bit pathetic. I can't believe people cried when she died. I'm too lazy to google for the truth.

Me love Tifa long time.

Tifa just looks dirty, you know there's a chance of her putting out on the first date.

Oh dear me yes. Aeris was far too posh, she'd probably want a ring on her finger before she did anything dirtier than a hand-job. Mmmmm. Tifa. Aeris, like Rinoa, is just too wet to be sexy. And also too dead.
