It's always great when you realise that a story you remember enjoying immensely some years ago turns out to have been written by somebody whose writing you later come to enjoy regularly. It's sort of encouraging to know that you actually do like their writing, and aren't just enjoying it because you already know you like their work.

Sometimes it works the other way. A story I really liked from my dads stash of old Omni magazines turned out to be by Orson Scott Card. Ewwww...
