I always hate it when somebody tells me to do something I was about to do anyway. I get this sudden urge to - say - go back up in the attic a few more times, not because I have anything more to do up there, but just to make it clear that I'm stopping because I've finished, and not because anyone asked.

I mean, it would be different if they asked when I was halfway through, 'cause then I'd be doing it because I was nice, and would deserve the credit.

Luckily I am nice, and manage to overcome the urge to be contrary for contrariness' sake.

This is more about my response to the message than the message itself.

(Which I didn't actually hear clearly, up the ladder, and so didn't receive until I was done and asked after it. Thus the urge to go up and down a few more time...)

In defense of the Messenger, there is a time and a place for everything. After 11 at night is the time for quietly being someplace else please?

Sorry, the post was about irrational urges in response to entirely reasonable requests, based solely on the timing of entirely reasonable requests (to wit, after they are already fulfilled). I can see how it could be read as a twine anout said entirely reasonable quests, but really, no.
