I had the good fortune of catching an episode of Pushing Daisies recently.

I wasn't initially interested because a simple pitch-type summary - 'private detective who solves crimes with his dead girlfriend' - doesn't do the show justice. That brief soundbite gives you the idea that it's a dark show trying to be the next Buffy, like 'Tru Calling' or something. This could not be further from the truth; in fact the show is more like a modern fairy tale, and while this phrase too is bandied about far too much, in this case it is particularly apt because of the narration, which comes from a distinguished british gent and speaks in story-book terms like 'the shoemaker' and 'the piemaker' rather than naming the characters directly. In addition the show is bright and colourful, with plot and direction both that scream whimsy. Almost hysterically, in fact.

Here is a clip from the show where the dead girlfriend's archnemesis follows her reanimated pigeon friend, accompanied by the dead girlfriend's taxidermist aunts.

Intriguing.

I too have seen that episode. It is very good.

I'm still waiting for Tim Burton to sue though...

Pushing Daisies is love &hearts

I'd been waiting for this show for well over a year because my Spanish lj friend kept posting icons she's made and it looked really pretty. I resisted the temptation to download but it took ages to get to our screen - so long that I thought I might be disappointed. Luckily, I haven't been - it's adorable.
Have to seen the second episode? The one with the crash test dummies that they never aired on the TV? I have a copy and will bring it along to Nook's game if not - it's a stand-alone episode but rather charming.

See you when geek commences :D

The second episode, whilst having no impact on the main story arch, is cool.

Ep 2 is the origin of the customised car, but it doesn't particularly need explaining.

Yeah, the appearence of the perspex screen didn't really trouble me.

We missed ep 3 and presumed it was from that.

I enjoyed that moment, although it was somewhat ruined by a spoiler in the Radio Times by some cretin who not only got the song title wrong but got the quantity of singers wrong. And still had the nerve to suggest that the show is annoying.

I agree with your view of the show, although I do think the marketing tried hard to present the title brightly.
