It happens. Influences can be strange and nebulous things.

I thought the Dagdans had come out of my head fully formed with just a little bit of celtic stuff stuck on them but then I read a short story in a Dr Who anthology and it was obvious that a) I had got some of the ideas from this story and b) I didn't remember ever reading it but I must have done because it was an anthology I had definitely read before. Wierd feeling... clearly the idea had lodged in my subconscious and had been looking for somewhere to be expressed :)

It's a fairly well used idea that is just as relevant then as it is now. "I can rule the world, but then what..." gets used by all the best authors on all the best villains. I wouldn't worry about it.
