Further to my recent post re modern songs in fantasy settings - can anyone spot anything in these lyrics that don't fit? 'Sea of sand' is questionable for Lalenth but I think it basically passes muster.

The key thing is it's probably obscure enough to not bother too many people. (Though I'm more familiar with the tune than the words ... maybe I could have it written down.)

There's a cold wind through
This sea of sand
And the sun's gone down
On our parting hands
So darling please
Don't let me go
Tread lightly on this
Bed of snow.

(chorus)
There's a fire lit
So let's unthaw now
Too cold and too far
We'll make it out somehow
We've turned to ice
And it's not our way to be
So let the earth quake
And melt with me.

Through the coldest nights
And dawning day
I will wait for you
In our hideaway
And our lips will meet
In the frozen air
When the shadows fall
I'll still be there.

(spoken)
When our emotions first ignited
It's like our hearts were never tired
My desires were set free
Was like a raging wildfire.
But now that spark has grown dark
We're now just dying embers
Afraid I'll end up all alone
Within these cold Decembers.

(chorus)
There's a fire lit
So let's unthaw now
Too cold and too far
We'll make it out somehow
We've turned to ice
And it's not our way to be
So let the earth quake
And melt with me.

Oh, BTW, I'd probably cut out the third (spoken) verse, it's wierd to break into poetry in the middle of a song when you're a capella, and it mentions 'December'. That might leave it a little short but I can always repeat the chorus...

I had issues with some songs I was using referring to the 'sea'.

Lalenth sits on a river, but I have no idea how close it is to the coast (Ie have hunters seen the sea)

It would pass under the radar of many I suspect as not being an anachronism, but it niggled at me, and I never asked Abi or Sean.

Obviously "Sea" is a local slang word for a broad expanse of something homogenus in nature.

I think from discussions I've had with Abi that "Sea" isn't a concept that anyone's familiar with.

I get the impression that the 6 families who founded the city were nomadic in somewhere very large and landlocked before Lalenth.

Just change 'sea of sand' to 'something of land'

Maybe 'heartless land'?
